Opioid Prevention Films & Documentaries

Films About Addiction & Hope

For over a decade, Spring Green has made films, including our free opioid prevention documentary, that help schools, families, and communities face addiction and the opioid crisis with honesty and hope. Watch them, share them, and use them, most are free.

The Opioid Crisis

Chasing Hope: The Documentary

An honest look at the opioid crisis and how we change it.

Chasing Hope began in 2015, from a conversation between Spring Green board president Amy Clark and Lucas County Sheriff John Tharp about Ohio’s overdose crisis. The film goes beyond the facts of opioid abuse, helping young people understand how addiction takes hold, why the risks are greater in adolescence, and what it can cost, while facing their own choices honestly.

The School Edition is made for middle and high school students (grades 6 to 12) and meets Ohio’s opioid-prevention education requirements. It comes with a discussion guide for presenters and a parent guide for honest conversations at home.

Chasing Hope is free to watch, and the discussion and parent guides are free to download.

As a pastor, I was extremely impressed with the emphasis on the value of life in the movie. These children and young adults are not portrayed as statistics but as precious people loved and created by God.

Addiction is Within All of Us

ONE: The Documentary

Available on Amazon to rent or buy

ONE looks at addiction through a different lens, not as something that happens to other people, but as something within all of us. Combining striking imagery with the teachings of philosopher Alan Watts, the film moves between devastation and deeper awareness, asking what truly satisfies us, what we long for, and how we find connection, identity, and meaning. It invites viewers to examine their own hearts rather than seeing addiction as someone else’s problem.

ONE is available to rent or buy on Amazon, and free for Prime members. Learn more at onethedocumentary.com.

A facilitation guide ($4.99) helps leaders guide group conversation and go deeper into personal reflection.
